Crutches, rope, bars, prostheses and harnesses combine to create a daring and beautiful contemporary dance of disharmony.
Under the masterful direction of Canadian choreographer Marie Chouinard, ten dancers execute puzzling and stunning variations on the exercise of freedom, operating often as bizarre human hybrids.
Appearing on points – one, two or all four at once – the dancers use the props in a gesture of spectroscopy that some times liberate and sometimes hinder their movements. This use of accessories gives rise to body shapes, body remixes, and unusual gestural dynamics and opens onto a universe of meticulous and playful explorations.
In Body Remix, extraordinary esthete Chouinard offers a reflection on the indefinable touches between the Other and the flagrancy of Beauty around the Goldberg Variations by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Subtle and extravagant, the sumptuous and wild movements plumb the insoluble mystery of the body’s lifetime, with each angle and fleeting moment as flawlessly complex and tense as it is graceful.
Created at the International Festival of Contemporary Dance at the Venice Biennale in 2005, Body Remix is a two-act ballet by Compangnie Marie Chouinard based in Montreal.
